🦋 IC Information

Character Name: Theodore "Teddy" Rufus Kaplan-Altman, crowned as Dorrek-Vell
Age: About 22
Canon: Marvel 616
Canon Point: Post Love Unlimited Infinity Comic (about December 2022 in publication time)
Character History: Here
Canon Abilities: What is your character capable of doing in canon?
Shapeshifting : As part of his Skrull heritage, Teddy is a naturally born shapeshifter. He can alter himself to look like anyone he has seen before, alter parts of his body into weapons (and naturally at this point is prone to claws on his hands and armoring down his shoulder and arms), and even stretch himself. He's in the past even changed in more extreme ways, such as a winged centaur, and has discussed that while he could do inanimate objects (such as turning his lower body into a chair, or becoming a filing cabinet), he doesn't want to do that. Skrull have been shown in the past quite capable of fully converting into animal forms as well, though this seems to be dangerous as form can affect the mind (and the Skrull who did this were stuck as cows for a while). This also comes with the advantage of being able to alter his internal biology at will. He's been known to store his cellphone in his arm while shapeshifted, and in combat situations deliberately moves his brain from his head to protect himself from people going for 'obvious' weak points. This part of his ability has saved his life multiple times.

Flight : As part of his ability to shapeshift, Teddy is capable of growing wings more than strong enough to carry him as well as at least two other people, through the air. This, combined with his ability to shift his internal biology, would make flight at high atmospheric levels quite possible.

Superhuman Strength : Due to the Kree half of Teddy's heritage he is far stronger than non-powered Skrull and Humans alike. His top strength is unknown simply due to lack of testing, though he is more than capable of lifting and tens of tons at once, perhaps even up to a hundred tons.

Superhuman Durability : Because of his mixed Skrull and Kree biology, Teddy is far more durable than most people. His skin can become many times denser and thicker than a normal humans. He possesses a very high pain tolerance and increased resistance to injury. He has demonstrated the ability to easily survive falls from great high, high powered energy blasts, attacks from powerful opponents like The Thing and multiple Avengers, and has even taken high caliber bullets and bladed weapon strikes without a scratch. Truly the definition of a team tank.

With Excelsior (see below) : Teddy is bonded to the Star-Sword Excelsior by his very bloodline via an enchantment not dissimilar to that of his universe's Mjolnir. This means he cannot be truly separated from it. At will he can summon the blade only by speaking its name, and dismiss it as well. By his will the blade can be loaned to another and returned once more. This is particularly useful because the Star-Sword has the ability to absorb and negate magic and enchantments. With a strike he can cancel out the power of mystical beings or just disrupt their magic. This can include holding powerful artifacts (such as Mjolnir itself) at bay, which Teddy has specifically done once. Finally, the blade is capable of selective damage. With focus from Teddy the blade can harm only that which Teddy wills while passing through allies and friends unharmed. He used this to cut a possessing life form from an ally while the rest of the blade passed harmlessly through them, leaving not even a scratch.

Note: Yes, I understand some of this sword's abilities in his hands would count as broken given the setting is quite magical. Therefore I would suggest that the Fae rulers and higher ups be resistant to this power. The only reason I don't suggest it lose all of this ability is that it could retain a lesser amount of its magical absorption/disruption for the purposes of tasks set to the Adopted by their new rulers.
Inventory:
Alliance Imperial Regalia (Hulkling suit, imperial cape, imperial crown)

The Star-Sword Excelsior/Ekz'El-Zorr (also listed under abilites)

Nega-Band Wedding Ring - In theory could allow the wearers swap places in space. The other band belongs to his husband (and has not come through with him, thereby limiting that power unless somehow the mate arrives).

🦋 Personality

Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.
  1. Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?
  2. Given the world that Teddy grew up in, he has always believed in magic because it has just always been a thing in his world. But his understanding and appreciation for it are very much shaped by his husband, Billy Kaplan-Altman, who is a reality warping witch. In many ways magic has been a positive force in his life, such as when he sees Billy use it for fighting villainy, healing, and even Billy helping other heroes survive in the vacuum of space for the purpose of preventing the sun from going supernova. Of course he has seen the negative side to it at times thanks to the misuse of magic by people like Doctor Doom which directly led to the death of his friend Cassie, as well as in how Loki manipulated Billy and thus accidentally unleashed an interdimensional magical parasite into their world. Ultimately it’s belief that, like all powers and even like authority in life itself, magic should be used with caution. That caution should be tempered by thoughtful consideration of how it affects both the direct recipients as well as the further reacting affects. Or put more simply, magic is a lot like fire: it can be used as a tool for destruction just as easily as it can be for creation.
  3. If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?
  4. Hilariously, Teddy is about the last person in the world to ask for any form of wish, in part because his husband can grant just about any of them he could envision. He seems magic as coming with costs though, which is why he does not put it out there. Forced to make one and given many forms of assurance that it would be granted without consequence, he would like to spent one meal with his father and both of his mothers, just to know them and to show them who he became. Teddy never had a true chance to meet his birth mother (who died while he was still an infant) and so knows of her only from the rare story. It is from her that his royal status comes and he has been told she was more gentle than many other Skrull, but he never had a chance to know this for himself. With his father he knows a bit more due to Mar-Vell’s involvement with human history and heroics, as well as knowing more people who met the man directly and Teddy’s own encounter with a sort of genetic clone of his father. Being as strong and honorable as his father is important to him to the point where he goes out of his way to get his father’s Negabands to craft wedding rings for himself and his husband, just to keep that connection. As for his mother Mary Jo, yes he grew up with her until his teen years, but he never new the truth of her life. She spent all of their life together being supportive and loving, but he never knew her truths. Through a lucky encounter with the M’kraan crystal, he was given a chance to meet a time-displaced version of her before she reached Earth and got to have her tell him that she was proud of who he grew into, but he would very much like to hear that from a version of her who got to see a lot of his actual growing up.
  5. What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?
  6. For Teddy the perfect song would be a love song. Specifically one of a young royal seeking the means to live eternally with his divine partner. Especially if it seemed structured as a riddle wrapping instructions up in them, or a prophecy. It would hit Teddy personally because while the Skrull have lifetimes measured in centuries and he’s likely to get that, his husband is different. Billy is going to ascent to become a god that echoes backward and forward through time. He feels that his husband is scared to reach his full potential because he’s afraid of what it means that the stories never mention a lasting partner for the god he will become. Instead there are references to children he has in the past with other great powers. Because of this Teddy worries that Billy will be lonely without him in the future, and he would want to be at his husband’s side. Yet gaining immortality as a boon or gift from his husband would feel wrong, whereas winning it for himself would make him feel like he finally and fully put to rest the idea that he can’t live up to his immortal partner. The song would pull on his fear of future grief, loss, and letting down someone he loved, and give him hope that he could solve that problem if he just heard a little more, if he just understood a bit better, and if he just pushed himself that much harder.
  7. If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.
  8. Once again the question points back to the same answer: Billy. In a way Teddy is doing so unknowingly by arriving in the courts of the Fae. Yet this is actually something that Teddy has done before. While it could easily be argued that he would have gone on the interdimensional exploration with the other Young Avengers anyway for the purposes of saving his friend Tommy, in the end he’s following Billy in the chance for his love’s twin. They go through many different dimensions, fighting ‘evil’ alternate versions of themselves, and always Teddy seems drawn back to Billy. In truth this hints at a not-insubstantial amount of codependency between the two partners, which has shown to get to unhealthy levels before. At times Teddy even seems to recognize just how much he’s messed up in how he’s tied to Billy, but he still follows the man he loves no matter what. The few times they are apart it’s clear that Teddy is miserable (such as when questioning whether he’s just a magical construct in Billy’s story), and when Billy’s powers are teased into making another dimension where they lived different lives and had different partners. At the end of the day Teddy would try his hardest to move heaven and earth to be with Billy, and even shows he’s willing to fight other heroes in the hopes of getting back to his love. So yes, if Billy decided to jump off of a bridge to fall into another realm, you better believe Teddy’s jumping after him. Or maybe even going just a second earlier so he’ll be there to catch Billy on the other side.
